Lesson 8: Problem Solving by Drawing Objects and Working Backwards
The first seagull ate one more than half the fish. The second seagull ate one more than half the remaining fish. The third seagull ate one more than half the fish remaining after the second seagull ate. After the third seagull ate, there was only one fish left. How many fish were there before the three seagulls ate?

Half of the books were sold on the 1st school day. 200 new books arrived on the 2nd day. 30 books plus half of the remaining books were sold on the 3rd day. Three times the remaining books equals 1,800. How many books were there before the first school day?
