Wang's Mental Math Theory

What is Mental Math?
Can you imagine your child being given an addition and subtraction problem—such as, “what is 469 + 763 - 872?”—and having your child solve the problem without a calculator and without pencil and paper? Not only that, but your child is able to tell you the answer, right after you finish reading the problem? Can you imagine that the small abacus shown below can help the child learn how to add and subtract entirely in their heads?

The process described here is called Mental Math, and not only can your child master the skill, they can have fun doing it! In the series, we teach the child a new method of rapid addition and subtraction. The key to this method involves the use of a simple abacus. The abacus is designed for children ages 5 - 9, In fact, we have copyrighted this new method in the form of a game.

By using the abacus to learn addition and subtraction, children will discover math can be fun—almost a game. With the abacus, children perform addition and subtraction exercises visually and by touching. By involving the sense of touch, children see and feel the problem being solved.
